Multiple Sclerosis Awareness

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for joining us here at Will Find Hope for our next awareness blog: Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis is truly one of the most complex autoimmune diseases in terms of understanding how it is going to affect someone with it. There are, of course, various severities of the disease, and, in line with that, multiple varieties that can present with all manner of conditions and side effects. Individuals you see throughout your day-to-day life can have MS without you ever even knowing it. Others may be so hindered by the disease that they may have very obvious movement difficulties and less obvious but just as severe conditions like vision loss or cognitive dysfunction. It is crucial to be aware of this disease and how, even though you may look at an individual and they seem fine, they may be heavily affected by MS without it being openly apparent. In less severe cases, it may present as a sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, followed by some brain fog or lethargy. The end point is to be kind and be aware that this disease is out there, and we all need to be cognizant that we never know what someone is going through or affected by.

Building from that, individuals currently affected by MS need to understand that this is classified as an autoimmune disease, no matter what their severity may be. You have every right to accommodations with work or school; don’t compromise your experience by thinking you have to suffer in silence. This goes double for leaning on family and friends or looping in your work associates. Having a support network in life can be an amazing asset to your success, but especially so when you have something like MS hanging over you.

The last point Will Find Hope would like to bring to your attention is the importance of being aware of the symptoms and causes of Multiple Sclerosis. This disease can creep up on people and go under the radar for years without much sign at all. It’s important to talk to your doctor to rule out MS whenever symptoms align. What may seem like simple fatigue or repeated tiredness could be your body’s initial cry for help after being affected by MS, even if it’s a low-grade variant of the disease. That said, we want to reassure our readers that treatments have come a long way, and many individuals can lead relatively normal and healthy lives when the disease is managed and treated as well as possible.

As with all our awarenesses, we simply want our readers to be informed and to go back out into the world with kindness and understanding in their hearts. Multiple Sclerosis is a life-altering disease that needs to be acknowledged and understood by all those affected by it.
